Even after 40 years of high-level breeding we can not lean back. The selection goes on and with that comes the improvement. Although we achieved the title of “KWPN Breeder of the Year” in 2010, we know that there is much left to do for us in breeding. The top sport gets better, the worldwide demand of horses who can perform on the highest level will keep on increasing. That’s a chance for the breeders who aim for, just like us, the best realizable.
From the beginning the aims of Stal Roelofs are very ambitious. Only the best is good enough! After a strong selection on the talent, health and pedigree of the horses, with a special interest for a high percentage blood (Abgar xx x Joost), only the best and most proved dam lines are left at the Stal Roelofs. With their high genetic value these dam lines (Melusiena’s, Dermie’s, Rubertha’s and the Holsteiner dam lines 242 and 104A) produced already many Grand Prix-show jumpers and approved stallions.
Stal Roelofs is proud of the fact that the KWPN awarded the stallion Namelus R “preferent”. It’s the highest title a stallion can get in Holland. His son Triple XIII was very essential for the British team, winning the bronze medal on the European Championships in Madrid last year. In December 2011 Triple XIII won the World cup-competition in Londen-Olympia.
But we are also proud that even the youngest generation of Roelofs breeding products play a leading role in the Dutch sport horse-breeding. Our stallion Dexter R was outstanding in the performance test and seems to be very usefull to improve the entire breeding. His full sister Beau Rubertha R achieved one of the highest scores in the KWPN mare testing in 2010 and last year Bright Termie R (Rubert R x Voltaire) was a true smash hit in the mare testing.
On the “Centrale keuring” in Geesteren these successes came together. Beau Rubertha R was chosen as the overall champion and also the other mares were high appreciated! But there’s much more to come. On the KWPN Stallion Show 2012 another couple of stallions out of the Roelofs-philosophy distinguished themselves. E.Termie R 64 (Colman x Rubert R) and E.Adermie R 54 (Mr.Blue x Sam R) deserved a ticket for the performance test. Also the jumping machine Den Ham R (Mr.Blue x Calando I) will take part in the testing this spring. We also look forward to the performances of several young home-bred talents who are in training by BWG Stables (Ben and Wim Schröder). They will be prepared for an international career.
The philosophy of Stal Roelofs is spread over the whole population. The use of approved Roelofs-stallions brings also great successes to other breeders. This answers our purpose of serving the breeding of top-show jumpers worldwide.

The Formula for Succesful Breeding
Foundation sire Abgar xx is the ‘modernizer’ who laid the fundament of each and every Roelofs-product. Already in the seventies and eighties of the last century, this tremendously sound thoroughbred stallion sired up to 80 show jumpers at national and international level, 17 of which became top FEI-horses.
The Abgar xx dams were crossed with a foundation sire from Holstein: Joost. Soon the Joost x Abgar xx combination turned out to be a golden cross, that produced top show jumpers such as VIP, Blue Chip, Osta Carpets Carrera, Attent ZB, Jogger and Hay Guy.
Afterwards Roelofs combined the finest of his female Joost x Abgar generation with the European elite, the outstanding sires of international show jumper breeding: Cor de la Bryère, Landgraf, Voltaire, Ramiro Z, Zeus, Almé Z or their successful (grand)sons Calido, Contender, Calando I, Burggraaf and Concorde.
We work very systematically, according to the IQRS (International Quality Rating System), licensed by the Norwegian "Det Norkse Veritas" Quality Certification Agency, with our breeding, rearing, selecting and training up to International level.
